email marketing

“Focus on growing your list all of the time as newer subscribers are more engaged adding to healthier open rates and ROI.”

Karl Murray

Email marketing is a terrific option to keep in regular contact with customers and keep them updated on new products. Marketers have a huge interest in email marketing. So they want to know about it.

There was a time when the buyers were trying to find the seller of the product they needed. But now business policy is different. The seller is going door to door buyer house to sell their product. Email marketing is one of the most widely used methods in this changing world of business.

This marketing strategy is the simplest and least pricey. I say this is less expensive because the cost of marketing in this way is nothing compared to the cost of advertising through any other means.

Lets see a statistic:

In 2019 alone, 293.6 billion emails were sent and received.

In 2022, it will reach 348.3 billion. (Statista, 2020).

This means that the use of email is increasing day by day and as the use of email increases, so email is still a potential means of marketing strategy.

What is Email Marketing?

Email marketing is the marketing strategy through which email is sent to customers to encourage purchase product or service.

Basically, it is a digital marketing strategy through which the company’s products are promoted to the customers.

How to Start Email Marketing?

Email marketing first started in 1978. Then the use of this marketing has been steadily increasing.

Marketers are now turning to email marketing. However, many people do not understand how to start email marketing.

There are some steps to start email marketing

how to start email marketing

Selecting the appropriate buyer

You must identify the buyer before doing email marketing. You need to understand who is willing to purchase your product or service. You can understand that by observing the behavior of the customers. Again, it is understood from the buyers review.

Fix the goals

Before starting any work, one must set a goal for it. Because moving aimlessly is like a ship without sailors. If you do email marketing then you need to find out how much profit you will make and how your competitor companies are performing.

How much should it be if you benefit from an email marketing campaign or set a goal so you can reach there.

Creating an email list

You need to list those who will subscribe to your blog. In addition to subscribers, you can collect many emails through various email marketing agencies. But it would be best to collect the emails of those who like your service and make a list of them.

Setting up an email campaign

After creating an email list, you need to prepare a plan for how the email campaign will be implemented. You must specify whether to send the email on a daily or weekly basis.

You have to do research on what kind of content the customers respond well to when emailed. Again, you have to think about whether you will inform the customers about the new product in the market.

After analyzing all the issues, you have to set up an email campaign.

Initiate email campaign activities

At this point you have to start sending mail to customers according to the email list. You have to send emails regularly as planned. Do not waste continuity. Spur customers to purchase products in a variety of ways.

Post campaign review

The last step is the post campaign review. At this phase you will review the customer feedback. Observe how they react to your mail.

If you get a good response then you understand that your email marketing campaign plan was justified. And if you don’t get a good response, you know there are flaws in your campaign plan. You have to do new research and create new campaigns accordingly.

What to do to Make a Successful Email Campaign?

  1. The biggest hurdle to email marketing is moving emails to spam folders. As a result, customers cannot know about the emails.

To avoid this, there are some tips

  • Send to people who like your service.
  • IP address is an important issue, so mail from an good IP and verified domain.
  • Keep the mail template code clean.
  • Avoid excessive use of “salesy” language (these are spam trigger words like “buy”, “clearance”, “discount”, or “cash”).
  • Subject line is very important. Do not write anything in the subject line that is not consistent with the content.
  • Specify locations to increase credibility.
  1. Delete subscribers who do not respond. Because it would not be fair to waste your valuable time mailing them. You can give them some chance before deleting. This is the last chance! Do you want to unsubscribe? You can mail by writing such sentences.
  2. Prospect.io analyzed more than three million emails and identified four key factors that email affects marketing-
  • Sending time
  • Subject line length
  • Content length
  • Campaign steps

Time is a big factor in sending mail. You should send the mail at a time when the customer has time to read the mail. Such as morning time (5-6 am) (37% open rate; 8% response rate) and after evening when the customer is relaxed (7-9 pm) (48% open rate; 8% response rate).

44% open rate if the subject is 3-12 characters. Open rate 43% for 81-86 characters, 54% open rate for 98-111 characters. Open rate 54% for 23-45 characters.

If the content is 200-400 characters, the response rate is 3.5%. If it is 900-1000 characters, the response rate is 7.5%. 85 response rate for 1400-1500 characters.

The higher the campaign steps, the higher the conversion rate. 1-step: 0.74%, 2-step: 0.62%, 3-step: 0.84%, 4-step: 1.0%? 15-step: 1.39%.

A study from Yes Marketing found that Saturdays are the best days for conversions

email engagement by the day

  1. When writing a newsletter, write a separate mail for each person and the language will be simple and friendly. Everyone’s needs and preferences are not the same, so you have to write the mail thinking about that.
  2. The email subject must be very interesting. How many people will click on your mail will depend on your subject line. Most people click on the mail after seeing subject line.                                                                                                          When writing the subject line, keep in mind that don’t be too clever but should be written in such a way that the customer is encouraged to click on it. Do not write anything in the subject line that is inconsistent with the main content of the email.
  3. The use of smart phones is constantly increasing. Currently most users open their mail on the phone, this number is about 67%. So you must create responsive mail. Make the font bigger. Keep the formatting simple (single-column), under 600px wide. Use smaller images.

Now you can start your great email campaign.

Email Marketing is Usually Done in Three Steps

  1. Make email template
  2. Email collection
  3. Email delivery

Make email template

For email marketing you first need to create a letter or email template. In this case, you need to keep in mind what the product you are going to write about in your letter will look like.

What will be the receivers behave after getting this mail. Will they be bothered by the language of your letter? Did you write annoying text in your email?

Or whether your letter will help to increase his interest or not. These are the things you have to consider.

You also need to make sure that the email template looks nice. Nowadays many people check mail from mobile devices. So it is advantageous if the template is Responsive.

There are plenty of responsive email template designers in the freelancing marketplaces that you can hire them to create a template.

How to edit an email template?

Some people have asked me how to create an email template easily. For them, you can edit the HTML email template and create a new email template.

Creating a new template by editing the template requires a previously created HTML email template. You can download different categories of HTML email templates from various websites or make them with someone who knows HTML and CSS.

You do not need to have any knowledge of HTML, CSS or Photoshop to create new email templates by editing HTML email templates. If you can change or add something, it’s ok. It’s like changing old clothes and putting on new ones.

For example, Neymar changes his jersey, sometimes he plays for Barcelona and sometimes for Brazill, it means that the jersey changes, but the player is the same. The same goes for email templates, the only template is to change the content (text, images, etc.).

All you have to do is edit it, change the image and text in that HTML email template and add your image and text. You can change the font, you can change the color, you can add links, etc. This way you can easily create HTML email templates without any effort. Moreover, you can add or change as you like if you are HTML expert.

You can also make a email template with coding. But manually coding an email template is not an easy task, you have to know about coding.

Email template’s table, inline CSS should be responsive  Many free open source email templates are now available to make this process easier. You can download these templates and modify them to your wish or decorate them with great content.

Email Collection

One of the major tasks of email marketing is to collect a lot of emails. Because through these email addresses you will have to communicate with the customer and encourage them to make purchase your products.

The more emails you collect, the more your sell will increase.

Here are some ways to collect email addresses:

  • Collect email addresses by subscribing to those who regularly read your blog. And get permission to send email.
  • Organize a blog contest. And keep the mails in the collection.
  • Place an ad next to your blog “If anyone wants to get updated news and offers from different companies, drop the mail address”.
  • Give similar posts on social media and invite people.
  • If you use WordPress for blogging; then you can use email collecting plugins. Moreover, mail addresses can be collected online in various ways.

In my opinion, the most important thing in email marketing is list building or email list building. Because, if you don’t have an email address, to whom will you send an email?

List building or email list building is the process of creating a list of email addresses. You can collect email through variety of ways.

However, basically list building or email list building is collected in two ways. One is the White Hat Method and the other is the Black Hat Method.

The White Hat Method is a valid system. Simply put, getting permission from someone before sending an email to their email address.

When a marketer find the email address using various software or sources then it is called Black hat method, Which is not actually a valid system.

I never recommend Black hat method. However, for the convenience of marketers, I am going to talk about two methods –

First method:  First you enter your Gmail address. Then you go to your contact options. Select any one of the list from the contact options. Then select all the emails in the list, click Export from the options and save to your hard disk. The file you saved will be in .csv format.

This way you can list emails from your Gmail account and you can list the emails of friends or acquaintances from the contact options in your Gmail account. This way you can round up email addresses from Yahoo Mail, Hot Mail if you want.

Second method:  You can find the email address with the name of any person through email extractor eel surf7. Which is very simple and very effective. At first enter the name of the person you want to search with + email and search on Google and select the search result (ctrl + A) and copy it. Then open this “http://eel.surf7.net.my” website. This website (eel.surf7.net.my) is primarily used as an email extractor.

You can collect emails from data extracts through eel.surf7.net.my . Now you need to paste the copied search result in the input address option of “http://eel.surf7.net.my” website and click on extract. After clicking on extract, the email address in the name of the desired person will be showed in the output option. This way you can find the email address with the name of any person.

Email delivery

The most important and last step of email marketing is email delivery. SMTP (simple mail transfer protocol) server is required to send emails.

Some of the services we use to send mail in general are Gmail, Yahoo, Verizon, Comcast, AOL, GoDaddy, Earthlink etc. These sites will not allow you to send large amounts of mail in one day. But you may have to send hundreds of mails every day.

So you can buy and set up an SMTP server and send as many emails as you want. To be a successful email marketer you must have a good quality SMTP server.

That’s why it’s best to buy an SMTP server. Although free servers are available with various restrictions, but they have many limitations. Professional email marketers never use free servers.

You can get this SMTP server in different ways. You can rent space from any company. You can also do it from your own PC. For email sending you can continue working by downloading any email blasting software.

Currently you can work from Constant Contact, MailChimp, ExactTarget, Emma Mail, AWeber, InfusionSoft sites.

Conclusion

Email marketing is one of the strategies we use in digital marketing. Email marketing is a marketing tool that plays a very effective role in communicating with the customer on a regular basis. Now let’s take a brief look at what we’ve learned so far.
